What does API Pond Aqua Essential treat in tap water?

It removes chlorine and chloramines and neutralizes heavy metals in tap water. The treatment works instantly, helping make new or replacement tap water suitable for fish in a pond. These chemicals can cause gill and tissue damage, breathing difficulty, stress and, in severe cases, fish death.

• Made for pond water, including water for koi.
• Use as a tap-water conditioner when starting or maintaining a pond.

When is this pond conditioner useful?

Use API Pond Aqua Essential when preparing tap water for a pond or when maintaining pond water and test results show high ammonia. Its concentrated formula is designed to reduce the risk of fish loss during pond start-up and ongoing care. Follow the product label for application directions.

• Fish continually release ammonia through their gills, urine and solid waste.
• Uneaten food and decaying organic matter also contribute ammonia to pond water.

How does it address ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?

API Pond Aqua Essential removes ammonia, nitrites and nitrates from pond water. Ammonia can stress fish at low levels and become fatal at high levels; nitrites can inhibit respiration and suppress the immune system, while higher levels can cause suffocation. Nitrates can harm fish and contribute to algae growth.

• High ammonia test results are a reason to address ammonia in the pond.
• Fish waste and uneaten fish food are sources of nitrites and nitrates.

API Pond Aqua Essential suits pond keepers preparing tap water for koi and other fish, starting a pond, or maintaining water when ammonia test results are high. Its concentrated formula treats tap-water chemicals and targets several fish-harming compounds in pond water.
