Aqueon SmartClean Aquarium Power Filter, Medium, Quiet with Adjustable Flow

The Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter is a quiet aquarium filter for 10–20 gallon (38–76 L) freshwater and saltwater aquariums, with SmartClean water changes and an included EcoRenew cartridge.

• SmartClean Technology — perform partial water changes without taking the filter out of the aquarium.
• Quiet operation — keeps filter noise low around your aquarium.
• Bio-Holster cartridge holder — provides a place for beneficial bacteria that break down waste.
• Carbon-infused EcoRenew cartridge fibers — help remove pollutants, organic debris and odor from aquarium water.
• NoDrip cartridge and holster design — helps reduce spills when changing the cartridge.

Routine aquarium upkeep can involve both water changes and filter maintenance. SmartClean combines filtration with a way to carry out partial water changes while the filter remains in place, so the process is simpler and less messy. Its adjustable flow and features for freshwater and saltwater aquariums make this medium model suited to a range of aquarium setups within its stated size range.

How does SmartClean make partial water changes easier?

Lift and rotate the filter nozzle to change water without removing the filter. This lets you carry out a partial water change with the filter still installed, reducing the steps involved in maintenance. The nozzle movement is designed to help avoid splashing, while the cartridge and holster have NoDrip features to help limit mess when you change a cartridge.

• Water changes are partial, rather than removal of all aquarium water.
• The filter stays in place during the SmartClean water-change process.

How do the Bio-Holster and EcoRenew cartridge filter aquarium water?

The Bio-Holster gives beneficial bacteria a place to grow, where they break down waste. The included Aqueon EcoRenew cartridge uses fibers infused with carbon to remove pollutants, organic debris and odor from the water. Together, the holder and cartridge provide the filter’s biological and cartridge-based filtration features.

• The cartridge is included with the power filter.
• The Bio-Holster is the cartridge holder and provides space for beneficial bacteria.

Which aquariums does the medium filter fit?

This medium model is designed for 10–20 gallon aquariums and can be used with freshwater or saltwater setups. Its adjustable flow rate supports a range of aquarium sizes within that capacity range. The product line is available in medium and large sizes; this listing is for the medium model.

• Compare your aquarium capacity with the stated 10–20 gallon range.
• Choose this medium model for freshwater or saltwater aquarium use.

Does the filter need priming after setup or a power interruption?

No priming is required: the Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter has an auto-start pump. It also restarts automatically when power is interrupted and then restored, reducing the need to restart the pump manually after that interruption.

• Auto-start pump requires no priming.
• Automatic restart follows a power interruption once power returns.

The Aqueon SmartClean Power Filter suits aquarium keepers who want a medium filter for a 10–20 gallon freshwater or saltwater aquarium, along with a built-in way to make partial water changes. Its included EcoRenew cartridge, Bio-Holster and auto-start pump combine water filtration and practical maintenance features in one filter.
