Chris Christensen 003 Greyhound Buttercomb, 7.5-Inch Extra Coarse/Fine Grooming Comb

Chris Christensen’s 003 Greyhound-style Buttercomb is a deshedding and detangling comb for dense, heavy coats, with a 7.5 in (19.05 cm) body and extra coarse and fine teeth.

• 7.5 in long with 0.7 in (1.78 cm) extra coarse and fine teeth — offers two tooth options for coat care.
• Widely spaced coarse teeth — reach into dense coats and loosen trapped shedding undercoat.
• Rounded, ground pin tips — are designed to reduce friction and coat breakage.
• Solid brass core and flat spine, stainless steel teeth, nickel chrome finish — specify the comb’s construction.
• Handcrafted and used by professional groomers — made for detangling and deshedding heavier coats.

Thick, rough coats and dense double coats can hold loose undercoat and develop deep tangles. This comb is made for the initial work of loosening shedding hair, followed by finer-tooth grooming to refine and detangle the coat. It is also suited to extra-tight curls.

Which dog coats is the 003 Buttercomb made for?

It is made for breeds with thick, rough coats, heavy-shedding double coats, and tight curls. The Greyhound-style design combines wide coarse spacing with a finer-toothed side, so the comb can be used for both loosening and follow-up coat work. Examples include working and herding breeds such as the Black Russian Terrier, Arctic breeds such as the Siberian Husky, and double-coated breeds such as the Pomeranian.

• Use the coarse side first to work through impacted shedding hair.
• Move to the finer side afterward to refine and detangle the coat.

How does the comb help with shedding and tangles?

The coarse teeth gently loosen trapped undercoat, while their generous spacing helps minimize hair pulling through deep tangles. Once the initial deshedding work is complete, the fine-toothed side can be used to finish detangling. Each pin is ground to a rounded tip for comfortable contact with the skin and smoother movement through the coat.

• Designed for both deshedding and detangling.
• Rounded tips help reduce friction during grooming.

What is the 003 Buttercomb made from?

The comb has a solid brass core, a flat spine, stainless steel teeth, and a nickel chrome coating. Its lightweight yet solid construction is intended for daily salon use on heavy coats. Chris Christensen Buttercombs are handcrafted, and the 7.5 in Extra Coarse/Fine model is catalog item #003.

• Made within Chris Christensen’s dog-show grooming tradition, which dates to 1996.
• Used by professional groomers for coat detangling and deshedding.

This comb suits groomers and dog owners managing dense coats, heavy shedding, or tight curls, especially when grooming involves removing loose undercoat before refining tangles.
