Removing soiled litter is part of regular cat care, but taking it to the outdoor trash after every scoop can add extra trips to the routine. These cartridges are made for use in a Litter Genie pail, where the refill film helps contain used litter and its odors between emptying the pail. The cartridge’s stated lifespan is up to two months for one cat; actual use depends on the household routine.

How does the refill help control litter odors?

The seven-layer refill film uses Odor Barrier technology to help lock away germs and odors from soiled cat litter. When used with a Litter Genie pail, the system can hold litter for up to two weeks for one cat; XL pails can store litter for up to three weeks. These are pail storage periods, distinct from the stated lifespan of an individual refill cartridge.

• Multiple film layers separate soiled litter from the surrounding room.
• Storage duration varies by pail size: up to two weeks for one cat, or up to three weeks in an XL pail.

How long does one cartridge last?

One Litter Genie refill cartridge lasts up to two months when used for one cat. The 12-cartridge pack is intended to keep refills on hand for ongoing use, without relying on loose plastic bags for each litter disposal.

• Cartridge lifespan: up to two months for one cat.
• Pack quantity: 12 refill cartridges.

Which Litter Genie pails fit these refills, and how do you insert one?

These cartridges fit all Litter Genie pails, including Standard, Plus and XL models. To install one, pull out about a foot of film, feed it through the cartridge’s center and tie a knot at the bottom. Open the pail’s lid and funnel, place the cartridge on top, then push the refill film through to the bottom.

• Designed for Litter Genie Standard, Plus and XL pails.
• Installation uses the cartridge’s center opening and the pail’s lid and funnel.

Jackson Galaxy, a cat behaviorist for more than 20 years, recommends Litter Genie for cat owners and considers the system a necessity in his own home. These refills suit households looking to contain used litter in a compatible Litter Genie pail as part of a regular scooping routine. They are made for Litter Genie pails rather than use as standalone disposal bags.
