• Compatible with MarineLand Rite-Size Filter Cartridges containing Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon — helps filter dirt and debris for clear water.

Keeping aquarium water clean involves filtering visible particles as well as supporting biological filtration. This Penguin power filter is designed for aquariums up to 10 gallons and combines three filtration methods in one system. It suits fishkeepers looking for mechanical, chemical and biological filtration, with a rotating wheel designed to support beneficial bacteria.

How does the Penguin Bio-Wheel filter aquarium water?

The filter uses mechanical, chemical and biological filtration to maintain a clean aquatic environment. Its rotating Bio-Wheel provides wet/dry biological filtration: as the wheel turns, it exposes beneficial bacteria to air. That exposure supports nitrifying bacteria growth, helping them work on toxic ammonia and nitrate. The brand’s stated performance claim is that this process helps eliminate them fast and keep aquarium water ammonia-free.

• Mechanical filtration addresses dirt and debris.
• Chemical filtration uses activated carbon in compatible cartridges.
• Biological filtration is provided by the rotating wheel.

What aquarium size is the 75 GPH model for?

This 75 GPH model is intended for aquariums up to 10 gallons. MarineLand also offers the Penguin Bio-Wheel filter in 100 GPH, 150 GPH, 200 GPH and 350 GPH sizes, for aquariums up to 20, 30, 50 and 70 gallons respectively. Choose according to tank capacity; filtration needs can also vary with fish population and maintenance habits.

• 75 GPH: aquariums up to 10 gallons.
• Other available flow sizes: 100, 150, 200 and 350 GPH.

Which cartridges and filter features does it use?

The Penguin filter is compatible with MarineLand Rite-Size Filter Cartridges; use the cartridge size recommended for the individual filter. These cartridges use Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon to filter dirt and debris and support water clarity. A cartridge is not identified as included with this filter, so this page does not represent one as part of the contents.

• Two-piece vented cover designed to reduce noise.
• Adjustable mid-level intake strainer.

What makes the Bio-Wheel different from a replaceable filter component?

The Bio-Wheel is a rotating wet/dry biological filtration component, not a wheel that needs routine replacement: it does not clog or need to be replaced. Its movement brings beneficial bacteria into contact with air, supporting the biological stage while the compatible cartridge handles mechanical and chemical filtration. The filter therefore combines a reusable rotating biological component with a cartridge-based filtration system.

• Patented rotating Bio-Wheel technology.
• Wet/dry biological filtration for nitrifying bacteria growth.

MarineLand has focused on fishkeeping for over 40 years, and its equipment is used by professionals in commercial display systems and scientific research. The Penguin 75 GPH is suited to fishkeepers maintaining an aquarium up to 10 gallons who want mechanical, chemical and biological filtration together. Tank size, fish population and maintenance habits all influence filtration needs, and this model’s stated capacity is aquariums up to 10 gallons.
