Penn-Plax Cascade 200 Aquarium Power Filter for 208 L Tanks, Adjustable Flow

Penn-Plax Cascade 200 is a hang-on aquarium power filter designed for tanks up to 55 gallons (208 L), with a flow rate of 185 gallons per hour (700 L/h).

• For freshwater and saltwater aquariums — suits either type of tank.
• Adjustable flow control — lets you increase or reduce water movement when needed.
• Disposable, double-sided filter cartridge with activated carbon and poly fiber floss — captures floating particles and helps address chemicals, discoloration, and odors.
• Separate Bio-Sponge cartridge — provides a distinct surface for anaerobic bacteria colonization.
• Bio-Falls system — increases water oxygenation and aids ammonia and nitrate removal.

Keeping aquarium water in condition calls for filtration that addresses both suspended material and water-treatment needs. Cascade 200 combines replaceable first-stage media with separate biological filtration and a waterfall-style return, making it a practical option for routine filtration in freshwater or saltwater aquariums. Its adjustable flow also gives you a way to change water movement when the tank needs a gentler flow, such as during feeding.

What aquarium types and tank size suit Cascade 200?

Cascade 200 is designed for freshwater and saltwater aquariums up to 55 gallons (208 L). It moves water at 185 gallons per hour (700 L/h), and its hang-on format positions the filter at the aquarium edge.

• Overall dimensions: 6.75 in high × 7.25 in wide × 4.75 in deep (17.1 × 18.4 × 12.1 cm).
• Lift tube length adjusts from 7 in (17.8 cm) to 11 in (27.9 cm).

Can I adjust the water flow?

Yes, the built-in flow knob increases or decreases water flow. This adjustment lets you tailor the filter’s flow as needed, including during feeding; the filter’s stated operation is quiet and its water-care claim is crystal-clear water.

• The filter hangs on the aquarium for mounting at the tank edge.
• The adjustable lift tube accommodates a range of tube lengths within its stated minimum and maximum.

What filtration media and water-care systems are included?

The first filtration stage uses a disposable, double-sided cartridge containing activated carbon and poly fiber floss. The cartridge traps floating particulate matter and helps remove harmful chemicals and toxins, clear discoloration, and reduce foul odors.

• The Bio-Sponge cartridge operates independently from the first-stage media.
• The Bio-Sponge is designed to optimize colonization of anaerobic bacteria.
• The Bio-Falls system adds oxygenation and aids in removing ammonia and nitrate.

Cascade 200 is suited to aquarium keepers seeking hang-on filtration for freshwater or saltwater tanks within its stated capacity, with adjustable flow and multiple filtration stages. Its combination of a replaceable carbon-and-floss cartridge, separate Bio-Sponge, and Bio-Falls system brings mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration features together in one aquarium filter.
