Race&Herd Original Herding Ball, 18-Inch Tangerine, with Protective Cover and Pump

Race&Herd’s Original Herding Ball is made for supervised herding play, with a protective zip cover and a replaceable inner ball so dogs can push, chase and steer it.

• Weighted to roll and stop like livestock — gives herding breeds a ball to guide with their shoulders and nose.
• Protective cover and replaceable inner ball — separate the outer play layer from the inflatable ball.
• Complete play set — includes the zip cover, inner ball, hand pump, repair patches and an IACP-approved herding training guide.
• Repair patches included — help address a puncture without ending the ball’s use.
• Made for supervised herding play, not chewing — gives owners a clear way to use the ball.

Some dogs are driven to chase and move objects rather than carry them back. This herding ball is designed around that behavior: its size and weighted movement make it too large to carry, while rolling and stopping encourage dogs to push and steer it. It is intended for supervised play, giving herding breeds and their owners a purpose-built activity.

How does the Race&Herd ball work for herding play?

The ball rolls and stops like livestock, giving dogs a moving object to guide with their shoulders and nose. Its design is for pushing, chasing and steering rather than fetch or carrying. Keep play supervised, and use the ball as a herding-play item—not as a chew toy.

• Weighted movement is designed to mimic the roll and stop of livestock.
• The ball is too large for dogs to carry.

What comes with the Race&Herd herding ball?

The set includes the protective zip cover, inner ball, hand pump, repair patches and an IACP-approved herding training guide. The cover takes the pushing during play, while the inner ball can be replaced. Included patches provide a repair option for punctures.

• One protective cover with a zip closure.
• One inner ball and one hand pump.
• Repair patches and an IACP-approved training guide.

Which size should I choose, and how do I prepare the ball?

The 18-inch (45.7 cm) Small size is the starter option for small breeds and puppies beginning herding play. For dogs over about 20 lb (9.1 kg), size up to the 22-inch (55.9 cm) or 25-inch (63.5 cm) option. Inflate the ball until firm, using 2–3 PSI (13.8–20.7 kPa).

• Keep the ball out of direct heat.
• Choose Small for small breeds and puppies starting herding play.
• Dogs over about 20 lb should use a larger size.

Race&Herd’s Original Herding Ball suits owners looking for a structured, supervised activity for small herding breeds and puppies starting out, as well as dogs that prefer to push and steer instead of carry. Its livestock-like movement, protective cover and replaceable inner ball make it a herding-play set rather than a chew toy or a conventional fetch ball.
