AQUASMITH Aquarium Canister Prefilter, Non-Powered Self-Cleaning Design with Dual Water Paths

AQUASMITH Non-Powered Prefilter Canister Filter is an aquarium pre-filter designed to work with a main canister filter, with dual water paths for internal self-cleaning.

• Three layers of biochemical cotton and a sedimentation chamber — separate larger particles before water reaches the main filter.
• Independent sewage outlet — discharge collected waste without disassembling the canister.
• 12 mm (0.47 in) and 16 mm (0.63 in) connectors — fit the corresponding connection sizes used by many canister filters.
• Translucent canister body — lets you see internal conditions and judge when maintenance is needed.
• Retractable, rotatable outlet and quick-release canister — make draining, disconnecting and media changes more convenient.

When debris reaches the main aquarium filter, its filtration system can face extra workload and more frequent cleaning. AQUASMITH adds a pre-filtration stage for aquarium setups that already use a canister filter. Its sediment separation and filter media are designed to help reduce the main filter’s filtration pressure and extend the time between maintenance, while the self-cleaning design helps reduce how often the pre-filter needs cleaning.

How does AQUASMITH work with a main canister filter?

AQUASMITH acts as a pre-filter and forms a combined filtration system with the aquarium’s main canister filter. Water passes through a sedimentation chamber that separates larger particles, then through three layers of biochemical cotton for layered filtration. This two-stage approach is designed to reduce the amount of particulate matter reaching the main filter, supporting more efficient, longer-lasting filtration and helping maintain clear aquarium water.

• Non-powered design for use as a pre-filter alongside a canister filter.
• Three biochemical cotton layers provide successive filtration stages.
• The sedimentation chamber handles larger particles before they reach the filter media.

How do the self-cleaning and waste-discharge features work?

The dual water path system supports internal self-cleaning, so routine cleaning does not require frequent disassembly of the aquarium filter setup. A separate sewage outlet provides a way to discharge waste from the canister without taking it apart. The body’s quick-release design also makes connecting and disconnecting the canister more convenient when cleaning or replacing media.

• Use the separate outlet to discharge collected waste.
• The outlet retracts and rotates to take up less space.
• The translucent body makes the inside visible for maintenance checks.

Which canister filters can AQUASMITH connect to?

AQUASMITH comes with 12 mm (0.47 in) and 16 mm (0.63 in) connectors and is compatible with the vast majority of canister filters. Match the connector size to your filter’s connection before choosing; the two supplied sizes are the fit reference.

• Connector options: 12 mm and 16 mm.
• Canister capacity: 1.05 gal (3.97 L), with room for more filter media.

AQUASMITH suits aquarium keepers who use a main canister filter and want a pre-filtration stage with visible internal conditions, separate waste discharge and a self-cleaning design. Its connector options, layered media and sedimentation chamber make it a practical fit for compatible canister-filter setups seeking less frequent maintenance of the filtration system.
