The Tetra Whisper IQ 45 Power Filter is an aquarium filter for freshwater and marine tanks up to 45 gallons, moving 215 gallons per hour with a sound shield designed for operation below 40 dB.

• Rated for aquariums up to 45 gallons at 215 GPH — matches the filter to its stated tank capacity and flow rate.
• Submerged, self-priming motor — starts without manual priming.
• Bio-scrubber and smart path spillway — supports ammonia and nitrite removal while oxygenating and agitating the water surface.
• Adjustable intake for freshwater or marine aquariums — lets you adapt the intake to your aquarium’s needs.
• Stay Clean technology with compatible Bio-Bag cartridges — helps reduce glass buildup, bind small dirt particles and stabilize pH.

Aquarium filtration needs to address water movement, waste and the conditions fish live in, without adding unnecessary noise to the room. The Tetra Whisper IQ 45 combines biological filtration and surface agitation in one power filter, with a self-priming motor for a straightforward start. Its capacity makes it suited to aquariums within the stated 45-gallon limit, including freshwater and marine setups.

How does the Tetra Whisper IQ 45 filter aquarium water?

The filter’s bio-scrubber cultivates aerobic bacteria that help remove toxic ammonia and nitrite from aquarium water. At the outlet, the smart path spillway oxygenates the water and agitates its surface, bringing water movement together with biological filtration. Stay Clean technology works with compatible filter cartridges to help keep aquarium maintenance manageable.

The sound shield sits between the motor and filter as a barrier intended to minimize operating noise. The filter is rated for noise below 40 dB, making quiet operation a defining feature for a home aquarium setup.

• Bio-scrubber provides a surface for aerobic bacteria.
• Spillway flow oxygenates water and moves the surface.
• Stay Clean technology helps bind small dirt particles for easier filtration.

Which aquarium size and fish types does this filter suit?

The Tetra Whisper IQ 45 is designed for aquariums up to 45 gallons and is suitable for both freshwater and marine fish. Its adjustable intake lets you adapt the intake to the needs of your aquarium. The stated flow rate is 215 gallons per hour, so use the tank’s gallon capacity as the key fit check.

The Whisper IQ range comes in different sizes, while this model is the 45-gallon version. Choose it for a tank within its rated capacity; the product’s stated limit is not a recommendation for aquariums larger than 45 gallons.

• Maximum aquarium capacity: 45 gallons.
• Freshwater and marine aquarium use.
• Adjustable intake.

Which replacement cartridges does the Tetra Whisper IQ 45 use?

This filter uses large-sized Tetra Whisper Bio-Bag Filter Cartridges with Stay Clean technology. Replace the cartridge monthly; replacement cartridges are sold separately. The blue packaging identifies the large cartridge size, making it easier to choose the compatible refill.

Stay Clean cartridge technology is designed to help reduce buildup on aquarium glass, bind small dirt particles so they are easier to filter, and stabilize pH to help prevent crashes. These functions complement the filter’s bio-scrubber and spillway: the cartridge addresses particles and maintenance, while the bio-scrubber supports the removal of ammonia and nitrite.

• Compatible refill: large Tetra Whisper Bio-Bag Filter Cartridge.
• Replacement interval: monthly.
• Cartridge refills are sold separately and use blue packaging for size identification.

The submerged motor is self-priming, so manual priming is not required to start the filter. Tetra has developed fishkeeping products since 1951, bringing a long-standing focus on equipment and care solutions to aquarium owners. The Whisper IQ 45 is a practical fit for fishkeepers who want biological filtration, surface movement and a low-noise design in one filter for a freshwater or marine aquarium within its 45-gallon capacity. Its 215 GPH flow, submerged self-priming motor and compatible large Bio-Bag cartridges define how it fits that setup.
