Turtle and aquatic reptile habitats need water care that fits the enclosure and the animal’s environment. This internal filter combines cartridge-based filtration with features intended to make water changes and setup straightforward. Its medium size and adjustable flow make it suitable for a defined range of terrarium and water volumes, while the included cartridge and holder provide two distinct filtration functions.

How does the filter support water quality?

SmartClean Technology is designed to provide quick, convenient water changes to help improve water quality. The Bio-Holster holds the cartridge and supports the growth of beneficial bacteria for biological filtration. Together, these features give keepers a practical way to manage filtration and routine water care in an aquatic reptile enclosure. The holder’s role is to support beneficial bacteria; the EcoRenew cartridge provides the filter media.

• Internal filter format for aquatic reptile and turtle habitats.
• Bio-Holster cartridge holder for biological filtration support.
• SmartClean Technology for convenient water changes.

What is the EcoRenew cartridge, and how should I care for it?

The included Zilla EcoRenew cartridge is made from sustainable fibers that are biodegradable and fully compostable, and it is infused with carbon. Rinse the cartridge thoroughly before use, then replace it every 4 weeks for optimal performance. The cartridge’s fibers naturally begin to break down over time, so regular replacement is part of its intended upkeep. Its NoDrip design helps minimize water mess during changes.

• Rinse thoroughly before first use.
• Replace every 4 weeks for optimal performance.
• Carbon-infused, compostable media with a NoDrip design.

Which tank size is this medium filter suited to?

The Zilla Medium Aquatic Reptile Internal Filter is suitable for terrariums up to 40 gallons (151.4 L) that contain 20 gallons (75.7 L) of water or less. Its adjustable flow rate lets it work across a range of aquarium sizes, with a maximum flow rate of 145 GPH. Use both the enclosure’s total capacity and its actual water volume to determine whether it fits your setup; the 20-gallon water limit is the key water-volume constraint.

• For terrariums up to 40 gallons (151.4 L).
• Water volume must be 20 gallons (75.7 L) or less.
• Adjustable flow rate, up to 145 GPH.

How is the filter installed and protected?

The filter is self-priming and includes suction cups for setup. Its Auto-Start Pump automatically restarts after a power interruption to resume filtration. An integrated protective grate helps prevent animals from entering the filter, an important feature for habitats housing turtles or other aquatic reptiles. These built-in details address placement, restarting, and animal access without adding separate setup components to the described installation.

• Self-priming filter with suction cups for placement.
• Auto-Start Pump restarts automatically after power interruptions.
• Protective grate helps keep animals out of the filter.

This medium internal filter suits turtle and aquatic reptile keepers who want adjustable filtration, a cartridge that supports biological filtration, and an easier routine for water changes. It is intended for terrariums up to 40 gallons (151.4 L) with no more than 20 gallons (75.7 L) of water, rather than setups above those limits.
