Red Sea ReefMat 500 Saltwater Aquarium Filter Roller, 492 L, App-Controlled Automatic Fleece

Red Sea ReefMat 500 is an automated fleece roller filter for saltwater aquariums up to 130 gallons, designed to keep aquarium water crystal clear for weeks at a time.

• ReefBeat app control — get notifications about roll maintenance and operating issues.
• One fleece roll included — start filtering with the roll supplied.
• Fully assembled — set up the filter without assembling its components.
• Flexible sump placement — hang it on a sump wall or use its mounting legs.
• Adjustable fleece advance — customize how much fleece is dispensed for your system.

Mechanical filtration helps capture material from aquarium water before it continues through the system. ReefMat 500 is made for marine and reef aquarium setups where a fleece roller can handle that filtration automatically. Its sensor advances the fleece in saltwater, while the ReefBeat app provides information about roll use and filter errors.

Is ReefMat 500 compatible with my aquarium?

Red Sea ReefMat 500 is made for saltwater aquariums with a capacity of up to 130 gallons. Its fleece roller filters aquarium water, and the sensor that advances the roll operates in saltwater. It will not work in freshwater, so this model is intended for marine systems rather than freshwater tanks.

• Suitable for saltwater aquariums up to 130 gallons.
• Freshwater use is incompatible with the saltwater-only roll sensor.

How can I position and set up the filter in my sump?

Red Sea ReefMat 500 arrives fully assembled and is designed for placement in a sump. Hang it on a sump wall to conserve space, or position it using the included mounting legs wherever there is room in the sump. The drive unit and inlet hose can each be positioned on either side, allowing the layout to suit different sump configurations.

The plug-and-play setup is designed to make installation straightforward. Choose a suitable position in the sump and orient the drive unit and inlet hose to work with your arrangement. The filter can also be repositioned within the sump as needed, provided there is sufficient available space.

• Supplied fully assembled.
• Use the wall-hanging design or the mounting legs.
• Position the drive unit and inlet hose on either side.

How often does the fleece roll need replacing?

On a moderately stocked reef system, a Red Sea ReefMat 500 fleece roll typically lasts about 5–8 weeks. Actual use depends on aquarium conditions: bare-bottom tanks generally use fleece faster, and consumption may be significantly higher during the first few weeks as the system adjusts to the increased mechanical filtration.

The length of fleece dispensed can be customized to help match roll use to system performance. When replacement is needed, the roll can be changed without removing the filter from the sump or turning off the pumps. That makes routine roll changes possible while the filter remains in place and the aquarium pumps continue running.

• One fleece roll comes with the filter.
• Typical roll duration is about 5–8 weeks on a moderately stocked reef system.
• Expect faster use in bare-bottom tanks and during the initial adjustment period.
• Replace the fleece without taking the unit out of the sump or switching off the pumps.

What can I monitor with the ReefBeat app?

ReefBeat sends notifications when the fleece needs maintenance and when the roll becomes stuck or torn. If an error occurs, the motor stops trying to feed more fleece until the issue is resolved. The End of Roll Monitor also shows average daily fleece use and estimates how many days remain on the roll, helping you plan a replacement.

These alerts and usage details give you a way to follow the filter’s status from the app. A stuck or torn roll triggers an alert, while the motor’s pause prevents it from continuing to feed fleece during an error. The remaining-days estimate is based on the roll’s daily average use.

• Maintenance, stuck-roll, and torn-roll notifications.
• Motor feed pauses when an error needs to be resolved.
• View average daily use and estimated days remaining on the roll.

Red Sea ReefMat 500 suits saltwater aquarium keepers looking for automated fleece filtration, app-based roll monitoring, and a filter that can be arranged to fit their sump. Its saltwater-only sensor and capacity limit make it a choice for marine tanks up to 130 gallons, not freshwater aquariums.
