Fluval FX2 Canister Aquarium Filter, 662 L Capacity with Smart Pump Technology

The Fluval FX2 is a high-performance canister aquarium filter designed to filter aquariums up to 175 gallons, with a pump output of 475 US gallons (1,800 L) per hour.

• Four removable media baskets hold up to 1 US gallon (3.9 L) of filter media — organize mechanical, chemical and biological filtration.
• 16.5 in (42 cm) tall — fits under most aquariums while using less space below the tank.
• Smart Pump Technology monitors and optimizes pump performance — supports efficient, consistent operation.
• Self-starting operation and automatic air evacuation every 12 hours — simplifies setup and helps maintain filtration efficiency.
• Foam inserts and precision-engineered baskets — provide mechanical pre-filtration and help reduce water bypass.
• Unidirectional impeller and rubber feet — designed to reduce noise and vibration.

For aquarium owners who need high-capacity filtration without a tall canister taking up more room beneath the tank, the FX2 brings filtration media, pump technology and accessible maintenance features together in one unit. Its capacity suits aquariums up to 175 gallons, and its compact height is designed to fit under most aquariums. The removable baskets also make routine media access simpler than working with a fixed media compartment.

What aquarium size is the Fluval FX2 designed for?

The Fluval FX2 is designed for aquariums up to 175 gallons and moves water at a pump output of 475 US gallons (1,800 L) per hour. Smart Pump Technology uses advanced microchip monitoring to track impeller speed and force, then optimize pump performance. This gives the filter an active system for managing its operation rather than relying on an unmonitored pump.

• Suitable for aquarium setups up to 175 gallons.
• Microchip technology continuously monitors pump performance.

What filtration media can the FX2 hold?

The Fluval FX2 has four removable baskets with room for up to 1 US gallon (3.9 L) of mechanical, chemical and biological filter media. The baskets are precision-engineered to help reduce water bypass, while foam inserts provide mechanical pre-filtering as water enters the filtration process. Together, these features give you separate space for different filtration media in the canister.

• Four baskets release using instant-release T-handles.
• Foam inserts provide mechanical pre-filtering.

How does setup and air evacuation work?

The Fluval FX2 starts when you add water and plug it in. It also pauses every 12 hours to help evacuate trapped air, then resumes operation. This automatic air-clearing cycle is designed to support consistent filtration efficiency without requiring you to perform that step manually on the same schedule.

• Self-starting setup: add water and plug in the filter.
• Automatic trapped-air evacuation runs every 12 hours.

Will the FX2 fit beneath my aquarium?

The Fluval FX2 stands 16.5 in (42 cm) tall and is designed to fit under most aquariums. Measure the available vertical space beneath your tank against this height when choosing a location. Its unidirectional impeller has fewer mechanical joints, and rubber feet reduce vibration while adding stability.

• Compact canister height: 16.5 in (42 cm).
• Fewer impeller mechanical joints are designed to reduce noise.

The FX2 is suited to aquarium keepers looking for a canister filter for tanks up to 175 gallons, with room for multiple types of media and removable baskets for access during maintenance. Its 16.5-inch height makes it a fit for buyers comparing under-tank clearance, while the automated startup and air-evacuation cycle support routine operation. It combines high-volume water movement, four media baskets and a compact under-tank profile in one aquarium filter.
